Topsoil Products We Deliver
Harbor Soils stocks several topsoil and topsoil blends. Pricing below is current per-yard pickup pricing; delivery is added based on distance and volume.
3-Way Topsoil Mix · $32.99 / yard
Our most popular general-purpose topsoil. A screened blend used for lawn topdressing, garden beds, raised beds, regrading, and filling low spots. Great default if you're not sure which mix you need.
5-Way Topsoil Mix · $45.99 / yard
A richer five-component blend with more organic matter built in. Better for new vegetable beds, fresh garden installs, and any project where you want planting-ready soil out of the truck.
Lawn & Flower Mix · $42.99 / yard
Lighter-textured topsoil blend designed for new lawn establishment, overseeding projects, and ornamental flower beds.
Garden Mix (Mushroom Compost Blend) · $58.99 / yard
Topsoil heavily blended with mushroom compost. Premium planting medium for vegetable gardens, perennial beds, and any spot you want to maximize plant performance.
Screened Fill Dirt · $12.99 / yard
Not topsoil, but worth mentioning: when you need volume to bring grade up under future topsoil, fill dirt is the budget-friendly bottom layer. Cap with 4 to 6 inches of topsoil for planting.

Common Port Orchard Topsoil Projects
Lawn Topdressing & Renovation
Port Orchard yards on glacial till tend to compact over time, especially in older neighborhoods around downtown and Tremont. Topdressing with 1/4 to 1/2 inch of screened topsoil annually rebuilds soil structure on the surface and gives grass roots a fresh layer to grow into.
Our 3-Way Topsoil Mix or Lawn & Flower Mix work well here. For application steps, see our guide on how to topdress a lawn.
Garden Bed Construction
For new in-ground beds in South Kitsap clay or compacted till, plan on 8 to 12 inches of topsoil over the existing surface. The richer 5-Way Mix or Garden Mix gives you a planting-ready bed without the wait for amendments to break down.
Raised Bed Fill
A typical 4 ft × 8 ft × 12-inch raised bed needs about 1.2 cubic yards of fill. A common Port Orchard mix: 60% screened topsoil, 30% compost, 10% perlite or coarse sand for drainage. See our complete raised bed soil mix guide.
Yard Leveling and Grading
Settled yards, low spots, and post-construction sites all need topsoil to bring grade up. Use Screened Fill Dirt as the bulk fill for anything more than 6 inches deep, then cap with topsoil. Walk-through: how to level a yard.
Drainage Repair
South Kitsap winters are wet, and many older Port Orchard homes have drainage issues from compacted till. Topsoil with added compost helps water move through, but for serious drainage problems you may also need 3/4" Minus as a base layer or a French drain. See our PNW drainage repair guide.
Why Port Orchard Soil Often Needs Help
South Kitsap County sits on glacial till, the rocky, compacted soil left behind when Pleistocene glaciers retreated. Native soils here typically:
- Compact easily, especially under foot traffic and equipment
- Drain slowly, holding water at the surface in winter and turning hard in summer
- Run acidic (pH 5.0 to 6.0 is common) which limits availability of nutrients to most lawn and garden plants
- Lack the topsoil layer found in other regions because so much of it was scraped away during construction
That's why most successful Port Orchard yards rely on imported topsoil, compost, and bark mulch as the foundation. WSU Extension's Kitsap County office is a free resource if you want to test your soil pH and nutrient profile before ordering large quantities.
How Much Topsoil Do You Need?
Formula: Length (ft) × Width (ft) × Depth (in) ÷ 324 = Cubic yards needed
Or just use our topsoil calculator.
| Project | Area | Depth | Yards Needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lawn topdressing | 1,000 sq ft | 1/2 in | 1.5 yards |
| Small garden bed | 200 sq ft | 8 in | 5 yards |
| 4×8 raised bed | 32 sq ft | 12 in | 1.2 yards |
| Front yard regrade | 1,500 sq ft | 4 in | 18.5 yards |
| Lot leveling (under topsoil layer) | 2,000 sq ft | 6 in fill + 4 in topsoil | ~25 yards combined |
Tip: Order 10 to 15 percent over your calculated need. Settling, spillage, and underestimated dimensions all eat into volume on real projects.
Topsoil Delivery: How It Works
- Calculate volume. Use the table above or our calculator.
- Pick a product. Most homeowners go with 3-Way Topsoil Mix unless they're planting immediately.
- Place the order. Visit harborsoils.com or call 253-857-5125.
- Confirm access. Let us know if your driveway is steep, narrow, or has overhead clearance issues. We'll plan the drop accordingly.
- We deliver and dump. Standard drop is on driveway or flat staging area. The truck won't drive on lawn (it'll leave ruts in our wet soil).
For a deeper walk-through, see Topsoil Delivery in Kitsap County.
Topsoil vs. Garden Soil vs. Compost
If you're not sure which product fits your project:
- Plain topsoil is screened mineral soil. Best for grading, lawn fill, low-cost bulk volume.
- Garden soil / topsoil blends mix topsoil with compost. Best for vegetable beds and ornamental plantings.
- Compost is decomposed organic matter. Best as a top-dressing or amendment, not as a standalone planting medium.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does topsoil cost in Port Orchard?
Per-yard pickup pricing at Harbor Soils currently runs $32.99 for 3-Way Topsoil Mix, $42.99 for Lawn & Flower Mix, and $45.99 for 5-Way Topsoil Mix. Delivery is added based on distance from our Gig Harbor yard.
How fast can you deliver to Port Orchard?
Most weekday orders can ship same day or next day, depending on truck availability. Larger volume orders or unusual access may need a day or two of lead time. Call to confirm.
Do you serve McCormick Woods and Manchester?
Yes. We deliver throughout zip 98366, 98367, and adjacent 98353 (Manchester) and 98359 (Olalla).
What's the difference between topsoil and Garden Mix?
Topsoil is screened mineral soil. Garden Mix adds compost (mushroom or fish-based) for immediate planting. If you're planting in the same week you order, the Garden Mix is worth the extra cost. If you're filling, regrading, or topdressing, plain topsoil is the right call.
How much topsoil do I need for a new lawn?
For a new lawn from bare soil, plan on 4 to 6 inches of topsoil. For overseeding or topdressing existing lawn, 1/4 to 1/2 inch is plenty. See our spring lawn care guide.
Will the truck drive on my yard?
No, our trucks stay on driveways and paved or graveled surfaces. Yards in Port Orchard are typically too wet to handle a loaded truck without rutting. We'll dump on driveway or in a flat staging area, and you can wheelbarrow it into place.
Can you spread the topsoil after dropping it?
Standard delivery is dump-only. For larger projects we can refer you to local Port Orchard landscapers who handle spreading and grading.
