Same-Day Landscape Material Delivery in Gig Harbor: What to Know Before You Order

You're ready to start the project Saturday morning. What you don't want is to wait a week for delivery — or to discover you ordered the wrong amount and have to make a second run. Here's what to know before you place your first bulk landscape material delivery order in Gig Harbor.

What Can Be Delivered Same-Day?

Harbor Soils offers same-day delivery on most bulk materials in our yard:

  • Topsoil and 3-Way Topsoil Mix
  • Screened fill dirt
  • 3/4" Crushed Rock and other gravel
  • Bark and mulch
  • Garden Mix with Fish Compost
  • Drain rock and landscape rock

For same-day delivery, order before noon. Large orders or specialty materials may need more lead time — just ask when you call and we'll give you an honest answer on timing.

How to Prepare for Delivery

A little prep makes the delivery go smoothly and saves you work afterward:

Clear a drop spot. Our trucks are dump trucks — they need a clear, accessible area to deposit the material. A driveway works great. If you need it in the backyard, confirm there's a path wide enough for a truck and no overhead obstacles (wires, branches).

Measure before you order. The most common issue with landscape material delivery is ordering the wrong amount. Use this formula: Length (ft) × Width (ft) × Depth (inches ÷ 12) ÷ 27 = cubic yards. When in doubt, order slightly more — leftover topsoil and gravel store fine and can be used for other projects.

Have a wheelbarrow ready. Unless the truck can dump directly where you're using the material, you'll need to move it. A wheelbarrow makes this much easier.

Know your access constraints. If your delivery spot has a tight turn, a slope, or anything unusual, mention it when you order. We can often work around it, but better to know in advance.

How Much to Order

Quick reference for common projects:

  • 4×8 raised bed (12" deep): ~1.2 cubic yards of topsoil
  • Lawn repair (500 sq ft at 3"): ~4.6 cubic yards of topsoil
  • 12×50 driveway (6" total depth): ~11 cubic yards of crushed rock
  • 100 sq ft garden bed (2" bark): ~0.6 cubic yards of bark

The formula is the same regardless of material: Length × Width × Depth (in feet) ÷ 27 = cubic yards. Add 10% buffer to your calculation for settling and waste.

No Minimums — Order What You Actually Need

Most bulk suppliers require a minimum order of 1–2 yards. We don't.

If you need half a yard of topsoil for a single raised bed, that's what you order. If you need 15 yards for a major grading project, we handle that too. The price per yard scales appropriately — we just don't require you to over-order to get delivery.

This matters for small projects and patch jobs where ordering excess material wastes both money and space.
